The schedule usually gets a little crazy during the holiday season and this year is no exception. Below is the schedule for guitar lessons for the remainder of this year. Please post it on your fridge or put the dates in your calendar, and if you have other conflicts, please let me know.

There will be no guitar lessons on the following days:

Monday December 18 through Monday January 1

Lessons will resume as usual on Wednesday, January 3

My two-week stint teaching at National Guitar Workshop has ended. As usual, it’s been a rewarding week of meeting and working with amazing musicians and students and pretty much no sleep.

Below are a few photos of our Modern Acoustic I class and a recording of the group performing Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” at Friday evening’s student concert. In the photo set taken under the tree are: Sam, Robert, Karl, Tyler, and Tom (back row L to R) and Lauren and Terra (seated L to R). Also, that’s our intern Tyler in the Zappa t-shirt. Thanks to all for coming together and making our week a positive experience. It was a pleasure to work with all of you. Keep practicing!

Below are photos of my week two students: Ford, Cliff, Brittany, Harrison, and Andrew. Not pictured are Jessica, Gia and Dennis. Besides all of the material we covered in class, on Thursday evening the group performed a guitar ensemble arrangement of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” with Cliff making his live singing debut! I also had a fantastic time creating some original compositions with “Ohio” and Kayla and Eric in my Alternate Tuning minors. As usual, working with everyone at NGW was a blast, but I’m ready to head home and get a good night’s sleep in my own bed!

That’s right, there will be no lessons in July. I’ll be headed off to National Guitar Workshop in New Milford, CT to teach some courses and hopefully recharge my own batteries a little. I plan on resuming regularly scheduled lessons in August, so keep practicing.

Saturday guitar students:
May has crept up on me and I need to let you know about two conflicts I have during the month:

Saturday May 6
All lessons are cancelled due to a family wedding.

Saturday May 13
I will teach from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.
Students scheduled at 12:00PM or later are cancelled due to a wedding performance.

I apologize for this inconvenience. I usually try to steer clear of scheduling performances that interfere with my teaching schedule but in this case it simply couldn’t be avoided. I realize that this affects many of my most dedicated students. If you would like to schedule a make–up lesson, please contact me and I’ll be happy to accommodate you if our schedules permit.

Thanks for your understanding,
John

Spring break is almost over and a new session of classes is about to begin. I’ll once again be offering leves I & II of Adult Group Guitar classes via Athens Community Music School at Ohio University. Each course lasts eight weeks and costs only $78.00 plus a small fee for the couse text. Classes focus on fundamental techniques of playing both single-note melodies and chordal accompaniments. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings beginning on April 11.

Additionally, students may now register for private guitar lessons through ACMS.

You may download the ACMS Spring Lesson and Class Schedule AND Registration Forms right here.

Visit the ACMS website for more info, or contact me with questions, etc.
