This Weekend
I hope you’re doing well and that you’re enjoying the slightly longer, warmer days. There’s lotsa stuff coming up soon. This weekend I’ll be performing at Marietta Wine Cellars. Come on out and enjoy wines by the bottle and complimentary Hors d’oeuvres. I’ll be providing the tunes, obviously. They also have a pretty cool gift shop. In addition to wines and related goodies, they have the most extensive selection of wine-making and beer-brewing supplies in the area. Bottles, wine-making kits, corks, wraps, labels, absolutely everything you might need. Check it out.

Sean Jones at Ohio University
Coming up next week, Ohio University welcomes guest artist Sean Jones. A virtuoso trumpeter, bandleader, and composer, Jones has performed as lead trumpet with Jazz at Lincoln Center (Wynton Marsalis, director), now leads the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, fronts and records with his own small group, and teaches at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Jones is identified as an expressive and exciting young trumpeter with astonishing technique that follows in the footsteps of jazz greats Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Brown, and Woody Shaw. Here are the events that you should not miss – both are free and open to the public!

Nelsonville Jazz & Blues Festival
Also, It’s a little ways off but you my also be interested in knowing about the Nelsonville Jazz Festival featuring Mark Pender and Richie “LaBamba” Rosenberg from The Conan O’Brien Show. I’ll be on the bill with several other area artists including Pender and LaBamba, R & B Station, The Sufferin’ Moses Band, Shirley King, and more. I think there’s a fee for this show but I don’t know what it is at the moment.

As I’m sure many of you know by now, a tornado touched down in The Plains OH on Thursday evening around 7:00pm. It looks like all of us came through the storm safely except for property damage, so let’s count our blessings!
It has not been widely reported, but Studio E Music lost large portions of the roof during the storm and suffered water damage. Most of the instruments were salvaged, but the building obviously will not be safe to occupy until significant repairs are made or the store is relocated.
I’m currently looking into alternate teaching spaces. Until one is found, I am putting all lessons on hold and I will contact you as soon as I have a new – and probably temporary – teaching space. I have a few ideas that I am pursuing, but if you have any suggestions I’ll be happy to hear them.
I hope to have someplace secured the middle of this week or the beginning of next week at the latest. I will follow up with that information soon. Please note that you will not lose any of your lessons fees. We will just pick up where we left off.
I really hope to see you soon. Until then take care of yourselves and your neighbors!
John
