This course will be offered though Ohio University’s Athens Community Music School. Designed for the beginning guitarist or the intermediate guitarist wanting to brush up on basic accompaniment skills, Introduction to Guitar for Adults will cover learning basic chords and strumming patterns using songs in the style of familiar folk and rock tunes. Other topics will include: fingerpicking accompaniments, learning to use a lead sheet, and how to comfortably sit in with other musicians. We will be using National Guitar Workshop’s “Beginning Guitar for Adults” by Nick Vecchio as our text. The course will run for eight classes beginning on September 13. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7:0pm to 8:00pm at OU School of Music.

I just returned from the National Guitar Workshop and two intense and rewarding weeks of teaching. Meeting so many dedicated students and instructors and making so many new friends in such a short period of time was truly wonderful and a bit overwhelming. I’m sure I’ll post more about my time at NGW as I have a chance to reflect on the experience, but in the meantime, here are a few photos I snapped at the New Milford, CT campus. If anyone would like a full-size pic for themselves, please email me and I’ll send it out to you.

As you probably already know, I’ll be teaching at the National Summer Guitar Workshop during the first two weeks of July. Due to this commitment, there will be no guitar lessons on the following dates: June 29 through July 16. Lessons will resume as scheduled on July 18.

Then, I’ll be headed out of town one more time at the beginning of August. I anticipate these dates to be July 30 through August 6 with lessons resuming on August 8.

Thanks for your understanding about this summer’s spotty schedule. Please mark your calendar and let me know about your summer plans as they materialize.

Students: I’m excited to announce that on Friday November 4 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm we’ll have a student recital. This is an opportunity to get a few minutes of performance experience onstage in front of a supportive and friendly audience. And because I wanted you to have a hip place to play with a real stage, sound system and lighting, I have arranged for us to play at Donkey Coffee & Espresso. Although November seems like light-years away right now, start thinking about what you might like to perform at the recital so we can work toward that goal in your lessons.
