Visited this site today and enjoyed both your comments and Tony's comments. Watching American Idol and seeing some of the young entertainers accompanying themselves on guitar made me think of Ronnie. He would probably love seeing so many talented young people. Great to know you are a teacher and are passing on your talents. Bunny M.

I would also like add my memories of Ron. I met him in the mid 90's while managing Sam Ash music in Columbus.
Several times he would "trade down" his big heavy Fender amps for smaller, lighter combos as he got older.
As far as I know, he played guitar right to the end.
He was very proud of his American Indian roots and thick head of black hair. I was always impressed with the pics in his wallet (which he loved showing) of him with Alvino Ray and Bob Hope and others.
I visited him once at Riverside Hospital after a heart procedure. We talked gear as much as music, and I wish I had met him earlier in my life so I could learn more form him. Thank you for keeping this page up so others can learn about this local legend.

I just want to thank you so so much for this wonderful thumbnail about Ron (I knew him more as Ronnie) Scott. He was such a wonderful family friend and I have many memories of him coming to our home at 21 W. State St. in Athens to "jam" with my father, Dr. Robbin Gardner, a dentist who was a pianist. My father earned his way through dental school playing for various bands around Ohio. I heard some of the best music I have ever heard when he and Ronnie were just enjoying themselves. I especially enjoyed the two of them with heads together working out some technically difficult chords. Ronnie was a master of beautiful music. In later years, after his wife and my father had both passed, my mother and I would visit when we were back in Athens and Ron was always so happy to go over old memories. He surely loved my father "Doc Gardner"! I had invited Ronnie to stop by my 45th High School Reunion at the OU Inn, which he did, and he enjoyed seeing some of his old students or parents of students. This year, at the 50th, I heard he had passed but nobody seemed to have any info. I did not hear from him at Christmas last year, tho I always sent a card. Hunting today on the internet, I was so happy to find this notice. I am sure there are many people who have only wonderful things to say about this dear man. Again, thanks for taking the time to post such a wonderful obit. Ron will be missed. Bunny Gardner Mateosian
